All aboard! (Bus graveyard revisited)

Another visit to the bus graveyard, in a farmer's field in the North West of England  . . . even more overgrown than last time - brambles, nettles, thistles   galore! There were signs of the farmer being at home so we proceeded with caution . . .

This is the first bus we came upon. Sadly, its doors were jammed. It had travelled its last journey long long ago . . .

Its paint is nicely peeling off all over.

There was a new addition to the collection . . . well, I say "new" but this was clearly an ancient piece of farming machinery . . .

There were at least 3 different buses. It was particularly treacherous, trying to get to the latter two, due to the abundance of brambles and prickly plants.

These plants were growing freely inside and around the buses.

It was a weird day, lighting wise - rapidly changing from dark to sunny. I tried to capture the clouds in the windscreen of this bus . . .

Inside the bus, brambles grew freely, wrapped around the trashed seats.

An indication of how when this bus made its last journey.

It's still a mystery why all these decrepit buses, tractors and agricultural machinery are collected here, left to rot and rust in a large field.

Urbex in Sunny Spain!

While on holiday in a sleepy Spanish village on the Portuguese border, travelling around in a hire car, I spotted several derelict buildings. I was "allowed" by my fellow non-urbexers to visit a couple of these - one was a no-go in the end as there was an inhabited house right next to the derelict buildings and I didn't have enough Spanish to try to think up a plausible excuse if caught! The other was this . . .

I realised as I climbed the wall, covered in dry, prickly foliage that wearing flip-flops had been a serious mistake but continued . . .

It appeared to be some sort of agricultural/light industrial building and I have sadly been unable to discover anything about the place.

This sign translates to something like "Prohibited to step onto private property. Private - no littering and rubbish" and then something about complaints. Fair enough. I won't complain!

So I pretended that I didn't understand any Spanish and stepped foot on the private property!

"Lo que es un agujero de mierda!"
(Spanish for 'what a horrible place")

The floor was covered in the droppings from pigeons over many months if not years! Not ideal when wearing flip-flops!

It was a health-hazard!

There's that sign from the inside of the window.

Some graffiti . . .

Then round the back I found a rusty old container . . .

In fact, there was rust galore in this place!

It was eerily quiet . . .

I found the usual broken, abandoned, rickety old chair outside . .

And finally, a rusty old gate. It was getting rather hot and I fancied a cold, refreshing beer, seeing as I was on holiday. Thankful that I hadn't injured myself on any rusty nails while wearing totally unsuitable footwear, I left while the going was still good!

Holdings Pottery revisited

What a difference 5 months makes! Since my last visit, the place had become totally overgrown with brambles, nettles and other such annoying foliage! Despite somebody doing some work in the garden next door, we were left alone for our visit. (AML accompanied me this time)

Not much had changed inside. It's still too dark and damp.

There are still several broken chairs with foliage starting to grow through them.

Just a bit more moss has grown on the arm chair.

Plenty of pottery making paraphernalia . . .

Machinery . . .

There is a fantastic view of the moors from the outhouse.

A headless statue left to rot . . .

One of several old cookers lying around.

This time I managed to get into the "house" part but sadly it was just too dark to get any decent shots, being tripod-less! Among the rubbish and clutter there are several personal effects lying around - a framed photograph of a family wedding, bills, and a graduation photograph. But my, is there some rubbish in there too!

Sad to see a business and home gone to waste. Beautiful setting on the windswept moors. Be careful if you decide to visit - the ceiling is ready to go and it's probably a death trap!
